I seem to remember DW or LJ having - either natively or with an add-on - a way of adding private notes to a person's username which would pop up in the hover menu, where you could put, well, whatever comments you wanted to about the person, but which I tended to see people use for names, pronouns, usernames elsewhere, where they knew the person from, etc. Is there a tool of some kind that would let me do this on AO3? I would prefer it not be a hover menu, since those are difficult on mobile, and if they could be synced between devices in some way that would be even better, but really I'd be happy if this exists at all in any way.

Alternatively, does anyone know if this kind of thing is even technically possible to do?

1. Is there a place to submit enhancement requests, as opposed reporting problems? (I thought it would be handy if in kudos notifications the username of the person who left the kudos was a link to their profile. When people leave me reviews or kudos I like to go check out if they have written anything and/or bookmarked any fic I might like, which would be quicker if that was a link.)

2. Back on April 22 I sent a support request because I had been noticing for a while before that that I was getting what appeared to be bad hits in the RSS feed for the character tag Campbell Bain, i.e. fic that was not actually tagged Campbell Bain but tagged with various other Campbells, as though there had maybe been an inappropriate wrangle to alias characters that shouldn't have been aliased. I never received any reply (and from the look of the tag page it has not been fixed). Should I send another one? do nothing? other? (... dunno what "other" would be XD )

Hi everyone

I was wondering if anyone knew of a script to replace a particular word with another one on AO3? (eg., rediculous with ridiculous). I've been looking with no luck thus far. Anyone got any ideas?

Hey guys, so glad to see people are still getting something out of this community!

A little while ago eosrose asked if there was a way to indicate fic they've left kudos for/commented on.

In the discussion flamebyrd explained that as AO3 doesn't display that info at all, or even that you've visited a page except for your browser's own history, so no way to use the data and make it more obvious.

I'm wondering though if there is a script for Greasemonkey/Tampermonkey that would show that the top of a fic page with the regular header info that you've left kudos/commented/bookmarked this fic? I find it really odd and a bit annoying that you have to reattempt any of these functions to find out you've already done them. And it would of cause help us to quickly recognise that we have in fact read that fic already (something I am pretty poor at, now that I don't use delicious.com or pinboard regularly).

Any help appreciated (even if it's to tell me it can't be done).

There's an option on the "New Collection" page where the wording is a bit weird. What does this mean?

"This collection is unrevealed"

That the collection is hidden from public view?

I'm wanting to make some reading lists and I'm thinking of using collections.

I typically download fic and forget to come back to kudos/comment later. Anyone know how to make a script that will highlight fic that I've already left a kudos and/or comment on? It'll make checking to see if I've left feedback so much easier. XD

Edit: I'm looking for and indicator from the tags/search results pages. I don't want to go to the specific work page to check.

I believe the answer to this question is "No" but I just thought I'd check; maybe I've missed a trick.

Is it true that you cannot apply filters to an RSS subscription? For example, I subscribe to fic tagged with a certain character and read that RSS feed. But I would prefer to get only the English-language entries in the feed (and, even better, only the ones within the originating fandom, so I don't get crossover fics). Is it possible to do that?

Does anyone know if there's any way to skip the AO3-generated matching process? I'm running a very small exchange, and I've actually manually matched my participants (via printing out/cutting paper).

I had wanted to send out the matches today, but AO3 seems to be forcing me to wait for the archive-generated matches before I can manually match.

Is there any way to skip the archive-generated matching step, and cut straight to manually matching my participants?

I've already submitted a request for help to Support, but I figured that I'd ask in case anyone has any tips immediately!

My exchange's sign-ups open today, but no one can sign-up.

The problem is that "I don't know if it is just me but I'm logged into my AO3 account and the sign up option isn't appearing in the top right or in the bar on the left. I just have the button for a sign up summery which it can't load as 5 people haven't signed up." and I've confirmed it on my non-collection maintainer AO3 account.

I'm waiting to hear from Support, but I have no idea what's going on. Here's my collection's profile page.

Here are my collection settings )

Here are my challenge settings )

Any idea what might have gone wrong?

edit - I tried setting the collection to 'open' and the problem seems to be persisting. :(

Setting the collection to 'open' brings up the 'post to collection' button, but not the 'sign-up' button. :(

edit #2 - FIXED! The collection *cannot be moderated* in order for the 'Sign-up' button and 'Sign-up Form' links to appear. This does appear to be a bug/unintended design issue, so I'm sending in a report to Support tonight. :)

Does anyone know if it's possible to have two optional text fields in AO3 challenge sign-up forms?

Also, is it possible to change the labels on more form fields than "Prompt URL" and "Description"?

I'm trying to beta a sign-up for an exchange and I'm running into a brick wall as to how to best deal with warnings/triggers. Any other advice on how people have handled using the warning tags to match/not-match recipients and authors would be greatly appreciated!

edit - re: warning tags

As far as making sure people *don't* receive content that they don't want, would it make more sense if I *got rid of the warning tags completely* and simply had people leave their 'dealbreakers' in the text field?

Question I've been mulling all day:

I've been doing this writing exercise: http://seekingferret.dreamwidth.org/52973.html where I write Pale Fire-style footnotes for famous quotes from other books. If I were to put these on AO3, how the hell would I tag them? I think they're inarguably fannish, inarguably transformative, but it's not clear exactly what fandom they're in. Is it the fandom the footnote is about? Is it Pale Fire? Or is this origfic since it doesn't have the characters from Pale Fire and the actual characters it has are my invented OC specialists?

I already have an AO3 account, but I'm trying to set up an FAQ for an exchange. Does anyone know what the current estimated wait time is for an AO3 account, and are there any projections as to whether or not that will increase or decrease around Yuletide? I.e., is AO3 going to start rushing out invites (I understand that it's currently a problem of server load or some such), or will invites simply start to back up further?

Mostly, I want to give participants an estimated time as of October 2011, so that they don't wait until 10 days before sign-ups open (or when sign-ups open!) to request an AO3 invite.

Question! Is there any way to do staggered posting in a collection on AO3? You know, advent calendar style, where all the works have been submitted to the collection previously, but works are revealed one per day?

Is there some kind of trick someone can do with moderating submissions in order to make this work? Any clues? :)
[personal profile] boundbooks
Does anyone know if it's possible to delete a collection? I made two as test collections, but am totally baffled as to how to delete them. I figure that one should be able to delete collections, as the action won't delete a work, but I am unable to discover how to do so.

Tips, tricks, something I'm missing?

edit - Annnnd, I totally found it. Turns out it's a button on 'Profile,' not something on 'settings.'

I've recently uploaded a handful of filksongs to AO3, in light of [personal profile] franzeska's clarification of the TOS FAQ saying that the important measure of "fanworks" is that they were "created in a fandom context for a fandom audience." Yay!

Um. So... how do I tag them? I wrote filk for kink_bingo. Is kink_bingo the *fandom?* That seems... wrong. Is the original tune the "fandom," which would mean adding half a dozen new single-work fandoms? I wrote filk about coffee. Not about sentient coffee (in which case, it could go under "anthropomorphic"), but about coffee. No fandom. No characters. No pairings. It's to the tune of & in the style of a popular Pagan song, which is probably unknown outside of Pagan circles. (The Pagan song is ttto a traditional tune, but it doesn't match the original tone or style.)

I'm not actually looking for answers as much as for exploration of the questions. )

So, I was looking back over my already-posted fic and realized that there's a trope that I really want a name for but don't have one to tag with. Basically, it's where one character at some point starts living the life of another canon character. Normally, it's done with crossovers but I've seen it done via time travel too. Does anybody have a good tag for that?
