Yeah, that's a very apt comparison. I'm sure there are some kudos that would have been comments; if nothing else, I know mine would have been. But my kudos would never have been long paragraphs of feedback, because as much as I would love to be the sort of person who leaves feedback like that, I just can't seem to organise my thoughts well enough to say more than "I liked this" most of the time.
I definitely think that for older fics, kudos are almost entirely feedback that would not have otherwise been left at all, because people just aren't as likely to comment on older stuff.
